Usually added to fresh salads for its rich texture and slightly bitter taste, radicchio is also a colorful garnish that can be grilled, steamed, sauteed, or stir-fried to lend its unique colour and flavour to your favourite vegetable or meat dish. Radicchio is best as a fall crop. Plant in mid to late summer in cool soil (about 20-22 degrees C) 0.3 inch deep and loosely covered. Try to time harvest after frost as cool nightly temperatures will encourage the red colour and enhance the flavour.
